Cradle Design is a multi-disciplined practice that provides innovative and sophisticated Architecture and Interior Design solutions for our clients.  The Cradle team has over 25 years of combined experience working with some of the industry’s leading design and architecture firms.  Our portfolio is varied, spanning the commercial, residential and arts sectors, but each project is approached with a consistent and creative dynamism.

Our designs are based on a thorough understanding of our clients’ needs, an informed use of materials and technology and a sound knowledge of context and regulation to ensure that the completed project meets the brief perfectly, both now and in the future.

A strong environmental awareness is threaded through our work.  Projects always integrate good passive design with a considered palette to create beautiful spaces that are honest and timeless.  We aim to provide unique habitats, be a source of ideas and inspiration and support the local and global community.

    New house in Cooma

Cradle has been commissioned to design a brand new house in a heritage area of Cooma, a small town in the NSW High Country.  The house has been planned as a series of pavilions which step down the sloping site.  Courtyards between the pavilions and verandahs to the front and rear of the house provide outdoor living spaces to suit summer and winter conditions at different times of the day.

    The artist at work!

The Blairgowrie Studio in Cooma is now finished.  The photographs by Patrice Riboust, Senior Exhibition Designer at the National Gallery of Australia, do a fine job of showcasing the completed building.  The stunning bench in the courtyard was the final piece to be installed – it is made from hardwood reclaimed from a local bridge.

    Curl Curl refurb evolves

The refurbishment and extension to a simple brick bungalow in Curl Curl on Sydney’s Northern Beaches is nearly ready for a Complying Development Certificate.  The project has been simplified to leave the external walls to the ground floor intact with a reduced upper floor extension at the rear of the plan housing 3 bedroom.  New bays to the front and rear elevations add visual interest and shade the large expanses of glazing.

Cradle Design Architecture and Interior Design Studio was founded by Regan VanderWert-Walsh and Paul Lucas in 2011. They lead a small but growing team of committed professionals from their studio near Manly on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Regan and Paul have over 25 years of experience working with well-known architectural practices, both in Australia and the UK.  After leading the design and construction of several commercial and residential buildings, they bring a highly-refined design sensibility to Cradle’s work.  Current projects fall into both the residential and commercial sectors and include exciting arts and hospitality buildings.  Please get in touch if you would like to discuss how Cradle can help realise your dreams.

“Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness”  Frank Gehry

Cradle Design has a strong sense of responsibility to our environment and the community around us, both at a local and global level. We nurture the environment by ensuring that every creative decision stems from an in-depth knowledge of sustainable design and current technology. We support the community by undertaking voluntary work, helping with grass-roots design projects and educating the public about architecture.

Our ‘filing cabinet’ overflows with useful contacts, resources and information about design, construction and green living.  We look forward to using our expertise to help you unravel the complexities of the building process.   In the meantime, please take some time to get lost in the web by following these links.
